Breaking Free: How Your Brain Distorts Reality

Do you often feel overwhelmed by negative thoughts or beliefs that hold you back, like ‘I’m not good enough’ or ‘I always mess things up’? Do you find it difficult to be kind to yourself? Are you stuck in negative thinking patterns that leave you feeling frustrated and powerless?

You’re not alone. This workshop will help you understand why self-compassion is so hard and teach you how to recognize and challenge those unhelpful thinking patterns, empowering you to thrive as your authentic self.

We all know that human beings are fallible, but many of us don’t understand how strongly that fallibility is built into the way our brains interpret reality. In this workshop, we’re exploring why self-compassion is so difficult for neurodivergent folks, and how your brain perceives reality in a distorted way. You’ll be introduced to the basics of self-compassion, drawing from the work of Dr. Kristin Neff, and learn about cognitive distortions—those moments when your brain exaggerates the negative and discounts the positive. Cognitive distortions impede your ability to see yourself and others clearly, making it harder to practice self-compassion. By learning to recognize and interrupt these distortions, you can start improving your relationship with yourself.

You’ll get a 50-minute recorded workshop by neurodiversity expert and certified autistic/ADHD coach Danielle Sullivan. They created this workshop because they understand firsthand how difficult it can be to practice self-compassion when cognitive distortions take over and they wanted to share strategies that have worked for them and their clients. Danielle will walk you through what cognitive distortions are, why our brains do this, and how to best support yourself through self-compassion and reflective strategies. Not able to finish the workshop in one setting or want to come back to it? You’ll be able to access the workshop as many times as you need.

Lifetime Access to Neurodiverging’s Discord

You will also get lifetime access to Neurodiverging’s community Discord where you can meet other people and engage in conversations about the content in this course as well as other neurodiversity, self-growth, and self-compassion topics!
