I’ve had a couple of emails asking me about the best parenting podcasts for families with autism, ADHD, and other neurodiversity.
There are so many amazing parenting podcasts out there! I couldn’t possibly make an extensive list. These are just some parenting podcasts that I’ve listened to personally and liked.
Podcasts from these parenting experts are based in respectful, positive parenting approaches, and recognize neurodiversity. I think they’re all fantastic, so they’re not in any particular order. Enjoy!
Best Parenting Podcast No. 1: Janet Lansbury’s Unruffled
Janet Lansbury is very well-known as the author of two books on positive parenting: Elevating Child Care: A Guide to Respectful Parenting, and No Bad Kids: Toddler Discipline Without Shame.
But did you know she also has a podcast? It’s called Unruffled! It’s all about respectful parenting issues, and how to be the parent you want to be. She provides lots of examples from listener letters with questions about handling toddler meltdowns, sibling fighting, and the parenting journey, so it’s chock-full of good ideas.
My Favorite Episode: Calming Our Reactivity to Children’s Irritating, Demanding Behaviors
Best Parenting Podcast No. 2: Dr. Ross Greene
In his eponymous podcast, Dr. Green provides help to parents of kids with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. This is the place to go for expert advice!
Dr. Greene is the creator of the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions Model! He also wrote one of my favorite books, The Explosive Child.
My Favorite Episode: Young kids, impulsive kids, & getting started with CPS
Best Parenting Podcast No. 3: The Nurtured Heart Approach®
Transforming the Difficult Child: The Nurtured Heart Approach by Howard Glasser is the book that SAVED me when my youngest child (since diagnosed with ADHD combined type) was a toddler.
We were all struggling so much as a family. The Explosive Child (above) helped, but it was The Nurtured Heart Approach that turned us all from an exhausted, sniping disaster back into a loving, cooperative, happy family.
So I don’t have to tell you how excited I was to find out that they have a podcast! I recommend Glasser’s book to every struggling parent I meet, and I highly recommend this podcast, too.
My Favorite Episode: Impulsivity and Inattentiveness are Strengths too!
Best Parenting Podcast No. 4: Tilt Parenting: Raising Differently Wired Kids with Debbie Reber
Tilt is a hugely popular podcast with over 200 episodes now! Debbie Reber is the author of Differently Wired: Raising an Exceptional Child in a Conventional World. She’s also a parenting activist and speaker. On Tilt, she works “to offer resources, connection, and community so parents can find choice, confidence, and peace and their kids and families can thrive.” I love it!
My Favorite Episode (co-hosted with her son): A Conversation with 12 Year-Old Asher About Diagnoses, Labels, and Stigmas
Best Parenting Podcast No. 5: ADHD Essentials with Brendan Mahan
Brendan Mahan is an ADHD/Executive Function consultant, coach, and speaker who has ADHD himself. He’s created over 150 episodes of ADHD Essentials. He interviews experts, offers advice to parents, and basically helps you learn more about managing ADHD and getting it to work for you. Have questions about screen-time, creating self-awareness, or schedules for ADHD? He has answers!
My Favorite Episode: Cutting Out Perfect with Denise Roadman, Middle School Wellness Teacher
Best Parenting Podcast No. 6? Neurodiverging!
Okay, but seriously, have you checked out my very own podcast, Neurodiverging?
From my neurodiverse family to yours: resources and stories about being an autistic parent with autistic and ADHD children. Podcast episodes include stories and lessons from my life, deep dives into the traits and histories of ADHD and autism, and reports about issues pertinent to ADHD and autistic folks in society.
