Enjoy an excerpt of my exclusive live interview with Patty Laushman, neurodivergent coach, who discusses the critical topic of ‘failure to launch’ in autistic youth with me.
“Failure to Launch” is a (somewhat problematic) term that usually encompasses:
- Difficulty Finding Employment: Many autistic youth struggle to find and keep jobs due to challenges with neurotypical social norms, sensory sensitivities, and the need for workplace accommodations.
- Struggles with Higher Education: Autistic folks often find it hard to navigate the complexities of college or university life, including managing schedules, transitioning between environments and differing sets of expectations, and coping with new social norms.
- Challenges with Independent Living: Skills such as managing finances, maintaining a household, and self-care can be particularly challenging, leading to reliance on family members or support services.
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain a deeper understanding what’s going on for autistic teens and young adults, and how you can better support us through this period
